EXPERIENCE
Freelance Writer
January 2015 - Present
.
I currently create content and edit for Wilmington magazine, Wilma magazine, Preferred Mart, and Edit My Word. I have also prepared technical research reports for Prescouter. From restaurant profiles, humor essays, Amazon listings, and professional website content, I do it all. Ask me about VR 360 cameras, sports fishing in Nicaragua, bitcoin, L-creatine supplements, Australian tourism, or what makes a good bundt cake. Whatever my subject is, whether short copy or long form content, I go out of my way to master it.
My short fiction has been nominated for the 2017 Best Small Fictions anthology. Two of my pieces were nominated for 2017 Pushcart prizes. My nonfiction work will be appearing this Spring in the anthology Blue City, Red State by Belt Publishing.
Star News Media, Wilmington, NC — Entertainment Correspondent
April 2016 - December 2017
Covering theater, movies, and comedy for the Wilmington city paper was an amazing experience. In addition to the actual writing, this position involved building and maintaining professional relationships, heavy community interaction including interviews and reviews, and consistent attention to detail.
I was very lucky in this position to have a welcoming, devoted audience, and a supportive editor who encouraged originality and style.

Ghost Walk of Old Wilmington, Wilmington, NC — Tour Guide
March 2016 - December 2017
This one might seem a little weird. And I don’t believe in ghosts until proven otherwise. But as a freelancer, you find some weird corners to get into, and this particular corner was amazing. Wilmington is a tourist town, and four nights a week I would lead a group of thirty people around the city telling them history and ghost stories. As a writer and performer, this job was invaluable in teaching me how to adjust to my audience, both in written word and personal tone. After all, if you are going to hold someone’s attention for two hours just with your voice, you have got to be good at reading the “room.”
Whole Foods Market, Wilmington, NC — Local Liaison
May 2014 - July 2017
As a member of the grocery team and the store local liaison, I worked with local vendors to get their products ready for application, and walked them through the rigorous vetting process. This involved one-on-one counseling about packaging, ingredients, and production. I was also heavily involved with customer service and special events, and prided myself on never being able to walk through the aisle without seeing someone I knew, and never being stumped by a product question.
